Barbara Crocker is an advocate for education whose work focuses on promoting opportunities for all. She served as President of the Board of Gulf Stream School and various philanthropic entities in Florida, spanning the hospital and arts sectors. Her professional career began at Chemical Bank and continued in real estate equities, followed by owning and operating a children’s clothing store in Boca Raton. As a 1975 graduate of Georgetown University, she has stayed close to the University community by serving on the Board of Regents, the College Board of Advisors, the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics Board of Advisors, the Alumni Admissions Program Board and the Georgetown Scholarship Program Board in addition to being a GSP class chair and head of the South Florida Alumni Admissions committee. In 2008, she received the John Carroll Award, Georgetown’s most prestigious honor for service and leadership.
Robert Egger recognized the enormous social issue of homelessness and applied his skills in business to combat the problem. He is the Founder and President of the DC Central Kitchen, where unemployed men and women learn marketable culinary skills while foods donated by restaurants, hotels and caterers are converted into balanced meals. Since opening in 1989, the Kitchen has distributed over 20 million meals and helped over 700 men and women gain full-time employment. Robert has served as an advisor to Compass Partners since its inception and has continued to play a key role, providing the team with advice and inspiration.
Aaron Maniam is a member of the National Youth Council (NYC), Singapore’s apex policy-making body for youth issues. He is an Advisor for “Be the Change”, a national public consultation exercise for youths, and chairs the Advisory Panel for the “NYC Academy”, an idea he mooted in late-2009 to build Singapore’s youth sector. He is also an adjunct faculty with the National University of Singapore (NUS)’s University Scholars Programme, where he teaches a module on “Leadership in a Complex World”. He chairs the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA)’s Youth Club, and was President of Mendaki Club, a group of professionals that conducts upliftment programmes for talented Muslim youth (2009-2011). Aaron was identified by the US-based Asia Society as one of 25 “Asia 21 Fellows” in 2008, selected from across the Asia Pacific. In 2010, he was named a Richard C. Holbrooke Fellow / Next Generation Policy Leader in an initiative to promote emerging foreign policy voices. In January 2011, Aaron was one of eight named an “Outstanding Young Singaporean” by the Orchid Jayceettes, a local chapter of the Junior Chamber International.
Richard Matsui recently was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company’s Taipei office, where he was actively involved in the cleantech industry as a founding member of McKinsey’s global solar practice in 2007. While there, he helped design new market expansion strategies for Fortune 500 companies and supported due diligence on M&A deals with a cumulative value of over $500M USD. Between consulting projects, he co-founded the Georgetown Alumni Club of Taiwan and Hoyas in Greater China, a summer internship program that brings Georgetown students to Shanghai and Taipei. Upon leaving McKinsey, he spent a portion of the 2010 summer consulting Compass HQ on its expansion strategy.
Jeff Reid is a proven strategic leader in the arenas of entrepreneurship, venture capital, education, technology, and economic development. He grew an educational organization entrepreneurially from its inception to a #1 national ranking and was chosen by his peers as one of the Top 5 entrepreneurship center directors in the United States. He believes in the power of entrepreneurial communities to drive economic and social welfare. In summer 2009, Reid became the Director of Entrepreneurship and Real Estate Initiatives at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. He is responsible for leading the school’s efforts to build world-class programs in each of these important industries. In doing so, Reid seeks to leverage the real-world experience of local business leaders to enhance student learning and build thriving communities of interest.
Andy Shallal is an Iraqi American activist, artist and social entrepreneur. He is the founder and proprietor of Busboys and Poets, an activism center and café in Washington DC, which features prominent speakers and authors and provides a venue for social and political activism. Since its inception, Busboys and Poets has become the most blogged about restaurant and gathering place in Washington DC and has become an incubator for activism and social change. Andy is both a friend and mentor to the Compass Community having spoken to Compass Fellows a handful of times and advised the leadership of Compass on its national efforts.
Zach Warren is a dual MPP/PhD candidate at Georgetown in Public Policy and Psychology, focused on psychometrics for creativity and entrepreneurial thinking. In Afghanistan, he has written or co-written reconstruction grants totaling more than $300 million, supporting farmers, youth, public and private leaders and helped develop Aga Khan University’s liberal arts college in Karachi. Zach spends his summers teaching circus arts at the Afghan Mobile Mini Circus for Children (MMCC), a Kabul-based social enterprise and child project that uses circus to educate 300,000 children annually. His work has been featured on CNN, MTV, ESPN, and NPR. He holds a Masters in Divinity from Harvard Divinity School, and is featured in the 2008 Guinness Book of World Records.

Alan Webber is an award-winning, nationally-recognized editor, author and columnist. He co-founded Fast Company, the fastest growing, most successful business magazine in history and winner of two national magazine awards, one for excellence and one for design. Alan was named Adweek‘s Editor of the Year in 1999, along with co-founding editor William Taylor. Alan is coauthor of three business-related books, including most recently, Rules of Thumb: 52 Truths for Winning at Business Without Losing Your Self. Alan provides the leadership of Compass Partners with strategic insight and support. While Alan continues entrepreneurial pursuits he also speaks to the topic of entrepreneurship, innovation, and personal growth as a continued thought leader in the space.
