Georgetown Fellows

Seeking a New Class of Fellows!

Applications are currently open for the 2010-2011 Compass Fellowship.

The Compass Fellowship is targeted towards students who are passionate about making a difference. Students come from a wide variety of majors, schools, and interests – but they are united through their passion for making the world a better place.

We do not require our Fellows to have any preexisting business skills or substantial background in social justice. We seek dynamic students interested in personal development, growth, and social business so that each Fellow contributes to a well-rounded, supportive group.

If you’re interested in being a Fellow, we encourage you to apply.

Last year’s Fellows

1Brooke Berger is a freshman in the College, currently undecided but interested in American Studies and Studio Art. Growing up in the Northwest, she has always had a passion for environmental sustainability and hopes to make that an integral part of her Fellowship experience. Combining environmental issues with her interest in art, Brooke would like to learn about community design and development in rural areas. While at Georgetown, she would like to be involved in expanding the school’s green initiatives and learn about policy regarding international development. Outside of school, she hopes to continue traveling and making lifelong friendships with her fellow Hoyas.

12Sina Chehrazi likes to think of himself as the kind of guy who says the word “yes” much more often than the word “no.” He really enjoys playing the guitar, travelling, and ethnic food. He believes that “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.” Many human beings have come and gone from this earth, but very few have really made any sort of lasting impact – he hopes to join the latter.  Sina views business as an art, social entrepreneurship as paint, and the world as an old canvas that will always have room for some restoration.

5Duncan Gellespie is a freshman in the business school. He is originally from Massachusetts and went to high school at Middlesex School where he worked as an editor of the yearbook, a dorm proctor, and a tutor for the history department. Duncan has worked in the past as a camp counselor, a fieldworker on an organic farm, a dockhand, and a soccer referee. In his free time Duncan likes to screenprint, bike, and play music. He has a strong interest in green energy and is excited to learn more about social entrepreneurship as a member of the Compass Fellows.

2Alex Honjiyo is a freshman in SFS and hails from the Seattle, Washington area. Although active in service projects and organizations for many years, he’s always wanted to combine his passions for international relations, politics and foreign languages into meaningful social entrepreneurship, which the Compass Fellowship will allow him the opportunity to accomplish. His philosophy is simple: “I want to help people and get others to help as well.” Alex is a traveler and foodie who also enjoys music and the performing arts.

10Marcy Humphrey is a freshman in the McDonough School of Business from Arvada, Colorado. She hopes to major in international business, with a focus in Latin America. Marcy loves going to church, running and baking. She is passionate about having close friends and making everyone around her happy. She is involved with Hoya Blue, the spirit association on campus and is so excited to start her education as a social entrepreneur.

4Caitlin Koury is a freshman in Nursing and Health Studies as a Healthcare Management and Policy major.  She hopes to earn a certificate in International Health, get a Masters of Public Health and work in health policy, setting up healthcare clinics in the U.S. and abroad. She is from Red Bank, New Jersey, and absolutely loves it.  In high school, she was class president, a member of the Mock Trial and Debate team, a peer mentor/freshmen orientation advisor, and treasurer of the Global Forum.  At Georgetown, she hopes to become involved with the International Relations Club and the GU Urban Debate League.   She is beyond excited to be part of the Compass Fellows and she loves being here at Georgetown!

7James Li has a strong background in innovative marketing, team management, and live event planning. Case studies, presentations, and simulations excite him above anything else. He has the extreme fortune of a family that loves to travel, resulting in him having set foot in places like Tibet, Europe, and South Africa. His main societal concerns are combating climate change, providing basic life necessities to the world’s poor, and transparency in philanthropy. James also loves sports, filmmaking, chocolate, photography, and Michael Buble. He hopes to one day morph these passions, along with his lifelong dedication to business and Chinese roots, into a fun career.

9Junho Lee is a freshman majoring in International Business and Marketing. Junho’s passion for social entrepreneurship stems from his involvement in the Tacoma community such as his work for retirement homes, tutoring immigrant students, work with the Korean community, and education reform in the Washington state capitol. Through his experience as State President of Washington Future Business Leaders of America and his leadership in school government and several clubs, Junho strives to bring all of his skills to the table as he shapes his future along with friends from Compass and the greater Georgetown community. Junho also enjoys playing tennis, trombone, piano, and singing, whether it is opera or with the Georgetown Chimes.

3Angela Morabito is an SFS student from Marietta, Georgia.  She is passionate about service-based leadership and plans on majoring in Culture and Politics.  In the past, she has worked with a variety of service organizations and participated in the United States High School Diplomats program, which culminated with a three-week trip to Japan.  Some of her interests include politics, broadcast media, and international relations.  Angela is very excited about being a part of Compass Fellows and likes traveling, frozen yogurt, OAR., running, the Op-Ed page, and Leo’s stirfry!

11Nick Maida is a freshman considering a major in finance and international business.  His admiration for entrepreneurship stemmed from watching his father found his own company during the early part of his life.  Nick is motivated by being able to identify an overlooked societal problem and devise an effective solution.  He raised $1,500 and donated approximately one hundred canes to the Thika School for the Blind in Kenya, an underfunded African school.  In addition, he volunteers at a hospital in one of the most impoverished parts of New Jersey, where he resides.  Nick tries to learn something new every day and live life to the fullest.

8Jeff Stefanis is freshman in the MSB and is excited about combining his love of business, passion for social justice, and enthusiasm for renewable and sustainable energy into a social venture during his time at Georgetown. Jeff is driven by his love of life and desire to share it with everyone he meets. He has been the director of corporate sponsorship and marketing for a fundraiser in his hometown of Stow, Massachusetts for Children’s Hospital Boston. Whether running his small tennis camp during the summer or just playing with his friends Jeff always enjoys being out on the tennis courts.

14Yeo, Zuo Yi is a freshman in the MSB majoring in Accounting and Finance. Hailing from sunny Singapore, Yeo has a strong desire to make a positive impact on other’s lives and accomplishes this through his passions – cooking and teaching. Being an enthusiastic foodie, Yeo enjoys brightening up people’s lives with his Japanese home-cooked meals. He also believes that it is always a privilege to be able to teach and (hopefully) inspire people, something he had accomplished in his stint as a high school economics teacher and a mentor in a home for underprivileged kids. Cheerfully, Yeo welcomes everyone to come up and say “Yeo! What’s up?”

13Tom Zorc is a freshman in the MSB at Georgetown University, hoping to double major in marketing and psychology.  He was raised in Bethesda, Maryland as the eldest of seven children. He is passionate about music, business, and entrepreneurship; as synergized by his successful DJ business of four years.  His other interests include lighting design, child developmental psychology, and music production.  Tom also loves intellectual debates, roller coasters, skiing, experimental music, his job as a camp counselor, food (yes, any), and thriller movies.

6Elizabeth Sabol-Jones is a freshman majoring in Chinese; a decision made after spending a summer studying in China. Elizabeth loves to travel; and with an international eye, she hopes to promote an appreciation of difference and culture on campus. In high school, she acted as the President of the Model UN club with the great pleasure of interacting with UN Secretary-General Ban. As a senior, she helped develop a non-profit music promotion company, in which she acted as event manager. Elizabeth brings her characteristic enthusiasm and ‘Hermione Granger’ logic as she pursues the adventures of college. The Compass Fellowship is the first of many footsteps she will take on campus.”
