Georgetown Mentors

Maria Hayden is originally from Dallas, Texas, and is now a senior in Georgetown’s SFS studying Science, Technology & International Affairs, with concentrations in security and Arabic. She was introduced to Compass her sophomore year, and has since been involved in a variety of ways–previously as Principal of the Public Relations department, and currently as a Fellowship Mentor and Partner. Maria now adds social entrepreneurship to her list of passions, which otherwise includes traveling, languages, running, piano and meeting as many people as possible! She has grown so much through Compass and can only hope to spread the same inspiration to others. She lives by her favorite quote: “A mind once stretched, never returns to its original shape.”

Marcy Humphrey is a sophomore at Georgetown University, where she studies Finance with a minor in English. Marcy calls Colorado home, where she dodges snakes and coyotes in the foothills of the great Rocky Mountains. She has a passion for entrepreneurship that she is working to develop into a community-friendly party planning service with her impeccable sense of design. Marcy would spend her days chasing around children and serving in her church if she could not be a social entrepreneur. The second best part of Georgetown (the first being Compass!) is screaming herself hoarse at, and stalking the famous attendees of, the Hoya basketball games! Marcy is excited to help others discover her love of social entrepreneurship through the Compass Fellowship as a mentor this year.

Todd Reese is a junior in the McDonough School of Business who plans to complete his undergraduate education at Georgetown University with a double major in Finance and Accounting and a minor in Mathematics.  As his academic accomplishments suggest, his greatest passions include personal finance and active investing. To that end, Todd has worked for large international wealth managers, and interned on the hedge fund team at a large university endowment and a small fund-of-funds outside of Philadelphia, PA.  In addition to pursuing his academic interests, Todd is actively involved in the Catholic Music Ministry at Georgetown and sings in two church choirs.  In an effort to integrate his love for finance and his call to service, Todd has organized seminars in Washington D.C. to educate college students on maintaining their personal finances. In the future, Todd hopes to incorporate his strengths by running his own hedge fund, enabling nonprofit institutions thrive through long-term capital growth.

Jeff Stefanis is an undergraduate at Georgetown University majoring in Marketing and Accounting with a minor in Justice and Peace Studies. He defines himself at his heart and center as a person with a passion and commitment to social justice. He founded The Solar Bank in 2009 as part of the first class of Compass Fellows. The Solar Bank is a non-profit organization that empowers low income families to own their own means to clean and sustainable energy generation over a 6-8 year period of time. Jeff believes strongly in the power of social business, the potential of others, and is “fired up” to continue working with the Compass Fellowship.

Kate Taylor is a rising senior in the SFS majoring in Science, Technology and International Affairs with a concentration in Security.  She has been a member of Compass since sophomore year, and now is a Partner at the Georgetown branch of Compass, as well as a mentor for the first year fellows of the 2010-2011 class. Kate founded Genesius Productions, a theater production company that fuses musical theater and community mentorship in the arts. Genesius hosted the Broadway Arts and Music Festival (BAMF) last Spring with a a record-breaking audience of over 700 for its two inaugural shows.  This summer Kate is working for Apple and The Corp, and eagerly looking forward to her senior year and being a mentor!

Tom Zorc is a sophomore looking to major in Marketing and OPIM while minoring in Psychology.  Tom caught the entrepreneurial bug soon after middle school – he started his own mobile DJ service company in 9th grade, which he still runs today.  Tom was quickly absorbed by Compass at Georgetown, first as a fellow during his freshman year, and now as a mentor for next year’s fellows and a summer intern.  Tom’s interests are ever-broadening as his college experience continues, but look for him on a TED Talk within the decade.
